Flaws of Ultimate Spider-Man Cartoon

The Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon has had its share of critics right on the Internet. Some very harsh critics as it turns out, who rip apart the cartoon. Obviously I think that most of us who do review this cartoon are out of the intended demographic of both Marvel and Disney. However, could both Marvel and Disney both be selling said intended demographic short.

The Fundamental Flaws of the Ultimate Spider-Man Cartoon on Disney XD

The best cartoons from my childhood are those who still hold up rather well for my enjoyment factor as an adult. Batman The Animated Series would be the big one for many during the generation that I was growing up. Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Tiny Toons, and all those like cartoons also pretty good. Still cartoons I can watch.

I cannot imagine any adult who is not either a parent or reviewing this cartoon or is a hardest of the most hardcore Spider-Man fans would watch this cartoon for more than a few initial episodes. It tends to have characters that are mostly one dimensional and episodic stories.

Granted the episodic stories things is not a bad thing. It is a very good thing. New fans will get confused by continuity rather easily and only about ten percent of the readers, the uber fanboy and fangirl nerds that we will do research so we can understand something. And if we are confused, we throw things.

There is a way to make things standalone and also be rather deep and promising. I didn't hate the episodes of Ultimate Spider-Man as many as most but I'll be perfectly honest, I see little need of every rewatching them. The twenty six episodes of Spectacular Spider-Man have have watched and digested multiple times. The same thing with the entire run of the 1990s Spider-Man, bad animation and dodgy story telling at all. There was just some kind of charm factor.

This is a cartoon for eight year olds and only eight year olds. I can see very few cartoons from this area in general standing the test of time where they are Batman The Animated Series like cult favorites.

The demographic is the sugar addled low attention span children. Nothing wrong with that, as those people would buy the action figures. Given that the shelf life of an animated show is measured in sixty five episodes or less most of the time, it is just as well.

This cartoon will never be Spectacular Spider-Man. This is a huge sticking point and this would have doomed this cartoon, because there are a lot of bitter feelings about the cancellation of that particular animated series. It is a tangled web of absolute trauma.

In the end, we only have four episodes that we have seen of Ultimate Spider-Man and the ratings that this show does in the long run and the toy sales will be the true story. It could get better. It could get far worse at times.

I'll be reviewing because I have to for better or for worse.
