Ultimate Spider-Man Flight of the Iron Spider Review

The fifth episode of Ultimate Spider-Man was entitled Flight of the Iron Spider. In this episode, Spider-Man gets a suit of specially designed armor from Tony Stark, becoming the Iron Spider. Needless to say, controlling super powered armor is easier said than done. The real problem occurs when the Living Laser takes over Iron Man's armor and Spider-Man is having trouble getting along with his fellow super heroes. Ultimate Spider-Man Episode 5 Flight of the Iron Spider first aired on April 22nd 2012 on Disney XD as part of the Marvel Universe Animated Block.

Ultimate Spider-Man Episode 5 Flight of the Iron Spider Review

In the latest episode of Ultimate Spider-Man, we get are usual mixed bag of quality. The bag this week seemed to be mixed a bit letter than the last couple of episodes. Naturally once you see that Spider-Man had the Iron Spider Armor, you can almost see the fact that he is going to have some problems working with it.

As a result, we get the utterly predictable, Spider-Man causing more damage than helping in the iron spider armor. The team on this show just seems to be struggling to get there, falling into rather generic personalities and I'll admit sometimes I want to reach right into the television to smack Spider-Man right across the face.

Oddly enough for a cartoon geared towards children, the adult heroes seem to be the highlight of this show for me, with Iron Man showing up. Continuing from Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Tony Stark is very much based off of Robert Downey Jr., which was in essence the absolute most perfect casting choice ever for a super hero.

Spidey did use his brain a bit more in this episode, reconfiguring the Iron Spider armor to work with him and also being the one to evict the Living Laser from the possessed Iron Man. The Laser was kind of meh to me but he served his purpose. I still think the very best version of the character (and many Iron Man villains for that matter) is in the Armored Adventures cartoon.

Now the imagine spots tend to rather be the usual hit and miss, with some groaners and a few chuckles to say the least. Appreciating this cartoon for what it is, as opposed to what it isn't(as in its not Spectacular Spider-Man) goes a long way towards my enjoyment factor.

The Living Laser being sent to the Super Hero Squad Universe was appreciated, as that show is a guilty pleasure. Plus we got a rather brief blink and you miss it moment of what Spider-Man might have looked like had he been in that show. Living Laser getting smacked by Super Hero Squad Show Thor was most amusing.

Overall rather enjoyable but not the best of the weekend by far. 7/10 seems to be a balanced rating. You can watch Ultimate Spider-Man Episode 5 Flight of the Iron Spider on Disney XD On Demand and do not forget to watch brand new episodes every week at 11:00 AM Eastern if you have Disney XD.
