It is now time to dive right into the Really Big Comic Book Box of Doom and pull out another issue, this time being X-Men Adventures Volume 1 Issue 5 from March 1993 entitled "A Morlock Rising", a direct adaptation to the 5th episode of the 1992 FOX X-Men Cartoon series entitled "Captive Hearts". In this comic book, the Morlocks kidnap Cyclops and Jean Grey, with an attempt to make Cyclops produce a heir with the leader, Callisto by any means necessary.

X-Men Adventures Volume 1 Issue 5 Review

X-Men Adventures Volume 1 Issue 5 was released by Marvel Comics in 1993, based off of the 5th episode of the X-Men cartoon series, written by Ralph Macchio, penciled by Andrew Wildman, Inked by Robert Campanella, Colored by Dana Moreshead, and Lettered by Michael Higgins.

Oh boy the Morlocks, not some of my favorite characters. Now that is not to say that they are bad characters, but to say they would be among my favorites would be rather pushing it. That being said, Callisto's design in this comic book, talk about creeping out. And the implications. She wanted to produce an heir, using Cyclops.

This obviously focused on Storm and got some rather important character insight on her. I think I might have enjoyed the actual episode, especially the fight scene. That is the funny thing, a capable artist can make a good fight scene, but even in the hands of the most capable artists, there are some limitations, that you can do in television, movies, animation, what have you.

The duel between Storm and Callisto was rather well played and I found that part to be most well presented. I think that the Morlocks would have never been that good again in this cartoon, although going through the countless X-Men comic books, I'm sure they have had their moments.

Once again, it's an adaptation comic based on a cartoon, an exact more or less scene by scene. Not something that you should run from but not a comic book that you should be digging up either.
