Ultimate Spider-Man Awesome Review

Ultimate Spider-Man Episode 14 was titled Awesome. In this episode, if Spider-Man's battle with the Juggernaut was not really bad enough, he has to worry about a science fair project where he is teamed up with Luke Cage. Of course, Peter couldn't complete the project, so he steals something from S.H.I.E.L.D. that backfires in the most spectacular manner. Ultimate Spider-Man Episode 14 Awesome first aired on Disney XD on July 15th 2012 as part of Marvel Animation.

Ultimate Spider-Man Episode 14 Awesome Review

The following review contains spoilers for Ultimate Spider-Man Season 1 Episode 14.

Episode Synopsis

Spider-Man is not having a good week and it gets worse, when he does battle with the Juggernaut. The Juggernaut beats Spider-Man up as Luke Cage calls him to remind him about the science fair project, which he blew off and has been blowing off. Peter's hasty attempts to get together a project are all for nothing, so he resorts to stealing what appears to be a moving gray brick from the S.H.I.E.L.D. hellcarrier.

Unfortunately, as Caulson points out, this brick is not a brick, but rather the awesome android, technology with a child like intellect and the ability to absorb pretty much everything inorganic, which makes it much stronger. Peter has to confess to what he done and the Juggernaut engages into battle with Spider-Man again, but The Awesome Android(or "Andy") as he is dubbed, absorbs the Juggernaut's helmet and costume and thus his powers, not to mention his rage.

Thankfully it appears that the Andy is susceptible to cold, which Spider-Man manages to do, using White Tiger and Nova's science project, to bring him down, making a mess. The Juggernaut is defeated but obviously Spider-Man is going to have to deal with the consequences of what he did.

Episode Review

Yeah, this wasn't really my favorite episode.

The Juggernaut really is just there to be the Juggernaut. I have no problem with that. He really knocks Spider-Man around, and really given the way that Spidey has been characterized in this episode and past episodes, it's kind of hard not to cheer the Juggernaut for smacking Spider-Man around a little bit. If only he had smacked Nova around a bit.

I'm still going by my theory this particular version of Peter Parker has ADD/ADHD, because it seems to be more present. Potentially caused by the spider bite, who really knows a lot of the time.

Here's something that really annoyed me. Yeah, Peter has some moments where he makes some questionable choices and is almost a jerk. More so in recent times. Bad things can happen to him because of that. But, the fact that he essentially committed theft and actually considered even though he had second thoughts about it, taking credit for the work of another person. Did the writers have a brain lapse?

And the angel and devil Spidey Chibis have long since overstayed their weapon for me. And the cutaways, just stop already. The fact the best episodes are where these things are minimal really should tell you something.

Male nudity being used for comedy purposes. Yeah, they went there, really.

Positives, um, Howard the Duck cameo for the win, I guess. Juggernaut was not too bad, until he got stopped by Andy the Awesome Android.

I know I've driven this particular point into the ground, but the fact I know that this show is capable of better makes it a far worse show than if it was constantly bad. A bad show is just a bad show. A show that shows hints of promise, but really just slaps the fans right in the face, that is ten times worse.

I was kind of looking forward to this one, where Luke Cage was supposed to be getting some development or so I was lead to believe. Yeah, they tried, but it fell flat. Which should be the slogan for this entire show.

Final Thoughts and Rating

3/10 for this episode, not one you really need to go out of there way to see. If you must, you can watch Ultimate Spider-Man Episode 14 Awesome on Disney XD On Demand.
