 Young Justice Episode 16 Failsafe

I’ll be perfectly honest with you all. This was one of those episodes where I was in two minds about. On one hand, it did have its moments. On the other hand, the ending did one of the things that I cannot stand. On the other, other hand, I think that the ending was so obvious that a blind person could have seen it coming.

At the beginning, I think that I knew something was up. I mean, I can see that destroying one hero for the “HS” factor, but not killing the entire Justice League. Right then, I smelled quite a disturbing little rat as opposed to this episode. All a dream, just how was it all a dream? That was the question that I asked so the episode did a pretty acceptable job of not tipping its hand about what it was.

Although there was a time in this episode where it was misdirected for a bit, for a potentially lamer ending. Oh the heroes were dead, they were teleported somewhere. Then we swerve, the swerve, and go right back to the obvious explanation. I thought that this episode, as I said, did have some great moments of action, but it’s not an episode that I think I could really watch again and hold all of its interest. It is a lot of show and just not a lot behind it, once the mystery of what is happening to cleared up.

Yeah, it is a training exercise to really test the team by putting them in a potential worst case scenario. And Miss Martian’s subconscious mind overwrites the scenario, making thinks again. A bit too much exposition for my liking and the reactions of both teams were nicely done. It is horrific to think what might have happened had the Martian Manhunter had not managed to pull them all out in time. Actually it is the absolute worse case scenario.

So yeah, what do I think about this episode? It is kind of hard to give this one a rating, because it’s not like I hated it. I just felt rather underwhelmed with much of this episode. There were some decent attempts at misdirection but really when you peel back those layers. This show is a mixed bag as some weeks it can have awesome blow away episodes and other weeks it can have episodes flat as a three year old soda. I’m going to have to say, 5/10 for this one. It’s about the highest rating I’ll give an episode that I not necessarily hated, but rather felt underwhelmed by.
