Comic Book Cartoons and Movies Out in 2012

Comic book fans around the world will have no shortage of media to sink their teeth into the coming year in 2012. There will be several movies, a direct to DVD feature or two,  several animated cartoons both new and continued. Will they remain true to the larger than life characters that we all know and love? The jury may still be out on that one but right now we remain hopeful.

Big Superhero Films to Be Out in 2012

Obviously you’d have to live underneath a rock to realize that the Dark Knight was one of the most beloved comic book movies of all time. Can Christopher Nolan top his last performance with the Dark Knight Rises? Comic book films have been notoriously weaker at the third adaptation of a particular series, Superman III, Batman Forever, Spider-Man III, and X-Men III, but I think that the Dark Knight Rises might be the film to reverse the curse. The Dark Knight Rises will be out in the theaters on July 20th 2012.

Spider-Man 4 was thrown right in the junk pile, for a reboot for the Spider-Man movie series, for the movie entitled Amazing Spider-Man. As Batman will tell you, a reboot can breathe some new life into the series and much like Batman Begins brought us previously unused movie villains such as Ra’s Al Ghul and the Scarcecrow, the Amazing Spider-Man brings in the Lizard. Obviously not the house hold name such as the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, or Venom, but they’ve been done before(although not well in Venom’s case but this is not the time or the place). Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters on July 3rd 2012.

The success of movies featuring the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America have been varied, but never the less, the Avengers will assemble on the big screen. It does remain to be seen what will come of one of the premier super hero teams in marvel, the Avengers, but hopefully it will not disappoint the fans. The Avengers will assemble on the big screen on May 4th 2012.

After the polarizing Superman Returns, the Man of Steel gets a reboot on the big screen with…well the Man of Steel. The reboot of Superman coming out in December 2012 will hope to do one of the oldest superheroes some justice. Unlike the Spider-Man and Batman reboots, an old foe will return to plague Superman in the first part of the reboot, the nefarious General Zod. Would have preferred a new villain not used before in Superman movies like Brainiac but whatever. Perhaps, I should KNEEL BEFORE ZOD, for that blasphemy. The Man of Steel will hopefully be one to add to the all-time greats.

Reboot is the buzzword of 2012, as that beloved team of turtle teens are set to return to the big screen for a reboot, as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be getting another movie. Details at this moment are scarce and hopefully the movie remains set for 2012.

Superhero Related Cartoons To Be Out in 2012

Obviously the second half of the second season of Iron Man Armored Adventures will air, as will more Young Justice. Just in time for their movie, the second season of the Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are on tap to air in “early 2012”.

Also after the taste we got back in November, Green Lantern the Animated Series will hit the waves on Cartoon Network in February. After a promising start, fans are expecting nothing more than big things for this show.

After the cancellation of the beloved Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon due to pesky rights issues, due to the purchase of Marvel Comics by the evil empire of the mouse(aka Disney), The Ultimate Spider-Man will be back, based off of the Ultimate Spider-Man comic books, which means Samuel L. Jackson er Nick Fury. Hopefully this one doesn’t get screwed over like every other Spider-Man show since the 1990s animated series had. Coming up in the fall of 2012.

And last but certainly not least, for their third cartoon, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles return on screen. This show and what news has come out seems to have the Ninja Turtle fanbase rather divided, but I’m adopting a wait and see approach. Fall of 2012 will see the return of the TMNT, in CGI.

Also Justice League: Doom, a direct to DVD DC Comics animated feature will be out on February 28th 2011. It is an adaptation of the great Tower of Babel storyline and hopefully they can do it justice in a 75 minute movie.

2012 is going to be a big year. Hopefully we’ll get some good stuff out of the equation.
