Phantom Menace in 3D, Why? Just Why?

When Avatar hit big a couple of years ago, many attributed it to the fact that it was in 3D. Regardless of how true this was, it did spawn a 3D movie craze for new movies, that is just getting a bit out of hand. That epidemic is getting to the point where movies are re-released in 3D. Last year, the Lion King was released in 3D, and really it’s a quality Disney movie no matter if it is 2D or 3D. However, it appears that we’re going to continue with the re-release in 3D with Star Wars Episode 1 the Phantom Menace

Star Wars Episode 1 the Phantom Menace to Be Released in 3D on February 10th 2012

I mean seriously. This movie, I remember when it came out, it was hyped big, star wars characters on Pepsi cans, on Dorito bags, pretty much everything that you can imagine. And then it was released and it was not the most well received movie. The prequel movies for Star Wars have all been a mixed bag, with the mixture being more bad than good. This is old news that this is being released in 3D to some I'm sure, but this just strikes me as a huge problem I have with the entire 3D concept for movies as a whole.

Seriously, releasing it in 3D just seems to be a promotional gimmick, but it won’t do much to improve the quality of the movie. In fact a good movie is a good movie and a bad movie is a bad movie whether it is 2D or 3D. There may be slight improvements but it will be so minor than really it is just something to do about nothing.

Of all the movies to be released, Star Wars Episode 1. It will sell to an extent because it is Star Wars, but we’re getting dangerously close to beating the 3D gimmick into the ground. Then again, there are movies that boast of certain high profile(and often times overhyped) actors being in them, where they play a minor role in the plot. 3D is just another clutch and obviously a movie meant to be in 2D being released in 3D is not going to have the same zing as a movie released in 3D.

And people wonder why fewer people are going to the theaters this day. But we’re going to ride the 3D horse, past the point of being useful. Such is the nature of the entertainment industry. Still Star Wars Episode One the Phantom Menace.
