Ten Obscure and Weird Comic Book Movies

There have been a lot of good comic book movies out there in recent years and a lot of bad movies out there in recent years. Whether they be good and bad, there is just something about comic book movies that just strike some kind of memorable cord with us.

Then there are various movies, some of them made for television, some of them movie serials, some of them failed television pilots that the fact that they exist, it completely baffles me to say the least and I'm sure it baffles many of you. DC Comics and Marvel Comic Books have had countless memorable movies, but there have been some that have not stood the test of time and have faded into obscurity, only to be scarcely recalled by even the lowest of comic book nerds. Even Wikipedia barely has any information on many of them.

Ten Obscure and Weird Comic Book Movies.

So here are some for the record books, in no particular order. I'm sure some clips have surfaced in places on the Internet, if you can be inclined to look.

1)Dr. Strange-Based on the success of the Incredible Hulk Television Show, Marvel tried its luck with some more television shows, but only there existed in the form of some failed pilots. Hell there were a couple that didn't get off of the ground, like a Human Torch show and a show with Namor, the Sub-Mariner. Dr. Strange was a pilot, of the Sorcerer Supreme. Interestingly enough, I never thought he'd be one to translate well into a stand alone television show. Also there was that Amazing Spider-Man television show that was on and got butchered around this time.

2)Captain America and Captain America II: Death Too Soon. Another ill fated attempt to spin off to a television show. Not to be confused with the infamous Captain America 1990 movie or the more recent live action movie. This was put out in 1978.

3)Power Pack: Proof that there is not any comic book on earth that is too obscure for a movie. The fact that the Power Pack was actually considered for a television show really does vex me in many ways and they got a pilot and not much else around 1991 or so.

4) Generation X-I'm pretty sure I might have seen this one before, but really my memory is fuzzy. The only characters that casual X-Men fans might even know are Emma Frost and Jubilee. And Jubilee is white. Aired in like early 1996 on FOX according to Wikipedia but I'll take their word for it.

5)Nick Fury Agent of SHIELD-For the sheer absurdity of Nick Fury being played by David Hasselhoff.

6)The Adventures of Captain Marvel-If not for the obvious copy right reasons regarding his name and how he is marketed, Captain Marvel would be a pretty good character for a DC Movie. Then again, DC has been unwilling to market anyone not named Batman and sometimes Superman to any degree for the most part. This was a 1941 movie serial. DC put on a lot of movie serials during the 40s, with Batman, Superman, and one with Wonder Woman.

7)The Vigilante-Another serial with Vigilante, an obscure cowboy but with a Western Tone. Those tended to be rather popular back in those days.

8)Congo Bill-Talk about your most obscure character to have a movie serial based on DC Comics.

9)Blackhawk-Another DC Comic book movie serial based on something that your average comic books fan might not even known.

10- Justice League in America. An attempt to have a live action Justice League show. Given what I've seen of the costumes, I really am glad we got the cartoon. There are just somethings that do not translate well into live action.
