West Coast Avengers Issue 2 Review

It is now to pull another book out of the Really Big Comic Book Box of Doom™ and take a look at West Coast Avengers Volume 1 Issue 2, released in October 1984, entitled “Blanking Out.” In this issue, the West Coast Avengers take on a new villain called the Blank.

West Coast Avengers Volume 1 Issue 2 Review

West Coast Avengers Volume 1 Issue 2 was released by Marvel Comics written by Roger Stern, penciled by Bob Hall, inked by Brett Breeding, colored by Julianna Ferriter, lettered by Diane Albers, and edited by Mark Gruenwald.

This continues the four part West Coast Avengers limited series. This introduces the new villain known as the Blank. Now that was rather an interesting villain name, but his power set is interesting, as it blanks out all of his features. Well despite the suspect sounding name, it fits. Plus as I’ve said before, it is a comic book, suspect acting names are the order of the day.

The Blank joins force right with Graviton. Meanwhile the rest of team, is trying to work together. Wonder Man seems to have a bit of a problem. Tigra has some rather bad self esteem issues. And Iron Man is not the original. This leads to an interesting dynamic between the five West Coast Avengers team members.

I think that the biggest strength in this issue is just every single team member is getting equal play and characterized rather well. That is really a sticking point in a team book. Then again, when the team is five members at this point, that should be something that is going to occur. And plus the various problems with the team, with Hawkeye being in the role of a leader, as opposed to the problem hot head.

We are halfway right through this story and it is getting rather good, as we see the origins of the West Coast Avengers. We are on the road to recommending this entire story arc and most certainly I am enjoying this read.
