Daredevil Volume 1 Issue 296 Review
Daredevil 296 was released by Marvel Comics with a cover date of September 1991 and was titled "Balancing Act". Daredevil 296 was written by D.G. Chichester, with Ron Garney on Pencils, Al Willamson on Inks, Max Scheele on Colors, and Jack Morelli on Letters.
Visuals can make or break a comic book.
Sure the story is rather important, with the writing, but the writing
doesn't carry a comic book quite as much as it would a traditional
novel. Artwork helps tell the story, paint a picture for the readers.
If we didn't want bang up visuals, we would be in fact reading a
novel and not a comic book.
There are visuals that can really creep
you out as well. And this comic book, with ninjas being dark,
demented, and kind of twisted, you can see some of that right in this
comic book. Even if we have a creepy female ninja, who is large and
in charge(and compared to Roseanne Barr, which is something that
really just tells you right when this comic book was written) named
Izanami.
It took me a while to figure out that
that thing was a woman but further research indicates that yes she
is. That was some rather disturbing fan disservice right there.
Still the visuals and just the overall
tone of this story, really just showcase some of the best that
Daredevil offers. This really just captures a lot of the tone,
without being overtly mean spirited or twisted. You can be dark
without being all that depressing.
Daredevil seems to
rather be a rather suitable vessel for possession. There is some
interesting bits involving a past between HYDRA and the Hand. Two
forces that I expect would clash, due to their time. Daredevil avoids
possession and lives, but the ravages of this recent battle has did a
number right on him.
So what did I
think about this comic book. It lived and died right on the visuals
that was interesting. Read if you are a fan, otherwise likely kind of
a pass.
