Strange Tales Issue 9 Review

It is now time to reach into the Really Big Comic Book Box of Doom and pull out another issue to review. This time being Strange Tales Volume 2 Issue 9. We have two stories, one featuring Cloak and Dagger(and Dazzler) and a rather strange tale in every sense in the world, featuring Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme.

Strange Tales Volume 2 Issue 9

Strange Tales Volume 2 Issue 9 was released by Marvel Comics with a cover date of December 1987. This issue was written by Terry Austin, Pencilled by Brett Blevins, Inked by Bob Wiacek, Lettered by Ken Bruzenak, and Colored by Glynis Oliver.

Strange Tales was at this time, a book where Doctor Strange and Cloak and Dagger shared a comic book with two separate stories. And I'll be perfectly honest, that kind of really put a damper on the story right in general. Cloak and Dagger in the single issue that I review, were rather compelling.

In this one, they had a hint of a great story, but it was rather weird. The artwork was, I don't want to say bad, but kind of strange(pardon the pun). Dazzler was thrown in there as well and she was fine. She tends to run rather hot and cold for me as a character to really be honest with you. But it really did work for this issue.

Now the Doctor Strange half of the story, oh boy, that was an amusing trip down mindscrew lane. Doctor Strange is a fascinating character, but his stories can be quite out there. I didn't read all that many but it does seem like he rather tends to just jive better as a guest star, as opposed to a leading character. Perhaps I'll change my mind once he has an entire comic book to deal with and instead of a half.

I kind of broke one of my rules, when I read this comic, as I never try and go back to a re-read, I try and get my review off of a fresh perspective. But this one was rather out there. If you're a fan of Doctor Strange, I think that you will enjoy this one, maybe, but it's not that I did not enjoy it.

This book really did live up to its name, Strange Tales. A pass on this one.
