Adventures of Superman 500 Review

It is now time to review another random comic book that I pull right out of the really big comic book box of doom. This time we have Adventures of Superman 500 from June 1993. Jonathan Kent is at death's door because of a heart attack but he is trying to pull his adopted son right back into the world of the living.

Adventures of Superman 500 Review

Adventures of Superman 500 was released by DC Comics in June 1993 with the title of "Life and Death". Adventures of Superman 500 was written by Jerry Ordway, Pencilled by Tom Grummett, Inked by Doug Hazelwood, Colored by Glenn Whitmore, and Alberto DeGuzman.

The 500th issue of the Adventures of Superman, right in the middle of the time where interest of the Superman comic books were at the highest. And DC comics really knew that they needed to keep the interest, as Superman had been dead and the toil had been taken on his adopted father Jonathan Kent, who was about ready to die from a heart attack.

Kent is at death's door, about ready to expire, but in the light, he meets Clark. This issue rather underlines a rather interesting commentary, as the human side of Kal-El, Clark Kent, has given him a sense of mortality, where he can die, even though, maybe, just maybe he shouldn't.

Throughout this issue, the reader is greeted with a great deal of visuals and mind numbing moments. We are kept at the edge of our seats throughout the entire issue and really from page one to the moment we pick up the back cover, we cannot process any bit of information that we are fed right through this issue quickly enough.

Those who are in charge with this story, knew that they could not rest on their heals just because it was an event comic. Rather they made sure people were compelled to stay through and actually read the issue.

Jonathan Kent survives, but is not out of the woods. Meanwhile, there appears to be mysterious sightings of Superman and his casket is empty. Could he be alive? Well there are, four different powerful beings, which feeds into the Reign of Superman storyline, all wanting to lay claim to the mantle of Superman.

Which one is the real Superman?

Are any of them?

Will the real Kal-El please stand up?

A rather appealing issue with both visuals and story, most certainly worth a pic up.
