Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes Episode 42 Assault on 42 Review.

This review will contain spoilers for Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes Season 3 Episode 16 Assault on 42.

Episode Synopsis

In the Negative Zone Prison 42, Whirlwind is taken in. Yet the prisoners appear to be freaking out over something, the Leader especially. The team of Ms. Marvel, Captain America, Thor, and Wasp get briefed on the situation, as giant alien bug like creatures start attacking the prison right at the Negative Zone. With the gateway back to Earth destroyed, our heroes are in trouble.

The Avengers decide to form a alliance with the prisoners in 42. Captain Mar-Vell is the first to agree to join up, with other villains agreeing. Thor makes a bargain with the Executioner, to help him free the Enchantress from Surtur's spell, providing that he fights with honor. Meanwhile, Captain America will not entertain even making a bargain with Baron Zemo leaving him to rot. Whirlwind threatens to cut Wasp up if they survive this for all of the times that she mocked him.

More of the creatures are lead it, lead by the chaotic force of the Negative Zone, Annihilus. Annihilus is causing the Leader great pain. After a battle, Leader and Abomination make it to the main room, but not to escap, but so the leader can disrupt the energy Annihilus.

Annihilus is driven off but it was his intention to destroy the prison.

Episode Review

A fair little and fun little episode, but it is obvious that we are getting a tone change. Perhaps not as bad as many of us feared, but it is dialed back in a more simplistic design.

Heroes and villains joining with each other, that is a plot that has been done many times recently. However, it was rather done well. I did like how Captain America absolutely point blank refused to let Zemo out. After all, that is a liability.

Everyone was mostly true to character, both heroes and villains. It is good to see the Leader one more time, as he was well played in his Season 1 episode and his smug arrogance was on display, in that scene with Ms. Marvel.

Nice of them to continue to set up the storyline with Thor with him and the Executioner be allies of sorts.

Assault on 42 on episode 42, I see what you did there, guys.
