Case of the Killer Pizzas Review

Let’s sit down and review the 11th episode of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon entitled the Case of the Killer Pizzas. In this episode, Shredder and Baxter Stockman use alien eggs from Dimension X that look much like meatballs that hatch as little red monsters that turn into big yellow monsters when in water. This is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 2 Episode 6 and first aired in syndication on November 5th 1988.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Episode 11 Case of the Killer Pizzas Review
I must have watched this episode a hundred or so times when I was a child. It was just one of my favorite episodes for some reason. Plus no doubt those who played the Turtles in Time SNES video game will remember the pizza monsters from Level Three. This is the episode that they spawned from.
Shredder’s plan is novel. He knows of the love of pizza for the Turtles, so he uses the a pizza bakeoff to ensnare the Turtles, dropping meatball looking alien eggs from Dimension X. As Baxter Stockman is chosen to read the names, our heroes spot the Shredder.
The battle between the Turtles and the Shredder was both rather corny and kind of fun. It obviously would make someone roll their eyes if it happened in a cartoon today. Poor Shredder, I don’t think anyone likes Anchovies.
The two pizzas get switched out and the third pizza was given to April for thanks of entertaining them. The eggs hatch in the microwave. Which really is astounding as I wonder what would have happened if they decided to eat their pizza without being eaten in the microwave.
I’m just saying.
The monsters look rather not intimidating, but when you just add water, they turn into yellow monsters with claws and Marge Simpson like hairdos, and Shredder and Stockman remote control them but Donatello uses his bo staff to bat it right into the water.
Which in hindsight is a stupid idea, as the creatures don’t appear to be handling orders all too well. Leonardo suggests that they help Shredder and Stockman. Raphael is not quite down with this with Leonardo citing some false advice from Splinter, which Raph promptly calls him out on. And Leo backtracks saying that Splinter might have said it, had he thought about it.
That was funny but that was not the only funny bit in this episode. They use power lines to defeat the mutant pizza monsters, reducing them back into eggs. Downed power lines with a puddle of water, and somehow the Turtles, Stockman, and Shredder are all fine, despite being nearby. I’ll just let that one slide because when you start talking about logic in a cartoon that features giant mutated reptiles eating pizza, you go down a slipperly slope.
And then we have this bit.
SHREDDER: “You Might Have Won This Time, Turtles, but there will be others.”
STOCKMAN: “That’s right, there will be others.”
Shredder: “Oh will you shut up.”
Again some highly underrated interaction and it supports my theory that the show might not have gone on nearly as long as it did, had it not been for the villains.
Bit at the end with Michelangelo perhaps putting the alien meatball like eggs in the microwave was fun.
Overall, this might be my childhood speaking because I enjoyed this episode so much, but we’ll go an 8/10 rating for this one. You can watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Episode 11 Case of the Killing Pizzas on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Volume 2 DVD.
