Ultimate Spider-Man Episode 13
Strange Review
The following
review will contain spoilers for Ultimate Spider-Man Episode 13
Strange.
Episode Synopsis
Peter dreams that
he has six arms and his Aunt May has a face of a spider, when Danny
Rand pulls him out of his dream. Everyone in the class, in the city
was asleep, suffering from nightmares. The only one that can help
them is Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme. Spider-Man, after going
on a trip on memory lane with Uncle Ben and some magic tricks, is
rather skeptical about the entire magic thing, but has no choice.
Doctor Strange,
the Sorcerer Supreme, meets them and they got to the dream dimension
to take care of Nightmare, who is feeling off of the dreams of
everyone. Nightmare manages to subdue Iron Fist and Doctor Strange by
playing on their self doubts, until only Spider-Man is left.
Nightmare tries to play right on the death of Uncle Ben but Peter has
come to terms with that a long time ago and learned responsibility.
Also, he learned that there is nothing to be feared from Nightmares,
as they are not real.
Nightmare is
rather weakened from this little bit, allowing Doctor Strange and
Iron Fist to come to their senses. Nightmare is beaten and trapped.
There will always be nightmares, but the dream demon has been
defeated.
Episode Review
I really enjoyed
this episode, one of the better ones for Ultimate Spider-Man. It just
goes to show what this series is capable of, providing it puts its
mind to it. Granted, there are some obvious jokes, with Spider-Man's
aversion to magic, but that's to be expected.
Nova has a fear of
rabbits. Power Man and White Tiger's fears, kind of just there, but
Nova and rabbits. The bit at the end was there. Then again, rabbits
can be devious, as anyone with a vegetable garden is likely going to
tell you.
There were some
heart warming bits involving Peter and Uncle Ben, that really was
rather maturely done. See, I think that this show can be capable of
these things, the fact is that they do those goofy, immature little
bits that even small children would find embarrassing.
This and the
episode with Taskmaster would be two of my favorites so far in
Ultimate Spider-Man. And Nightmare was voiced by Mark Hamill. It
wasn't obvious at first, until the end, as the voice was different,
but when Nightmare was being depowered, you could hear a lot of
Joker.
Of course, one
might argue that with a better cartoon, this would be a middle
episode, but with Ultimate Spider-Man, this episode appears a few
notches.
