It is now time to take a look at Green Lantern Volume 2 Issue 173, entitled One Friends, Old Foes, released in February 1984 from DC Comics. In this issue, the Javelin is hired in an attempt to commit some good old fashion sabotage on Ferris Aircraft. Of course, there is only one man who can stop him and that is our Green Lantern of Earth, Hal Jordan.
Green Lantern Volume 2 Issue 175 Old Friends, Old Foes Review
Green Lantern Volume 2 Issue 175 was released in February 1984 by DC Comics and was written and edited by Len Wein, Dave Gibbons on pencils, letters, and ink, Anthony Tollin on colors. First of all, I see our villain right on the front cover splattering the Green Lantern with, forgive my vulgarity here, but what appears to be a golden shower, if you catch my drift. Granted, I’m sure that that’s not what they were going for.
But that is the first thing that came to my mind.
Actually this issue of Green Lantern was not half bad. Whether or not it was half good, well you’d be the judge. Obviously going from the 120s to the 170s we can see some rather distinct changes of characterization between the main characters. It just proves that a lot can change in comic books in a few years. Even if technically a few years don’t pass in a few years.
Comic book time will give you a headache if you try and figure out any sort of timeline, so we’re just going to move on.
Javelin is going after Ferris Aircraft and this is a two parter apparently and I sadly don’t have the other part that I can see. It ends with the hero falling right to his doom, covered in some kind of yellow substance. I would make the old joke about all you need to defeat the Green Lantern is a glass of lemonade.
Interesting characters appearing in this issue, two that you would know if you read the DC Comics crossover, one of the first times they retconned and rebooted everything all to hell, the Harbringer and the Monitor. That was a nice little teaser and the half of my brain that actually works slapped the other half of my brain that doesn’t work as I remember that is coming up.
Most certainly one half of a two part issue an I’m not sure if the second half would have brought it up.
