It is now time to reach into the really
big comic book box of doom. This issue is I Am an Avenger Volume 1
Issue 1. This is an anthology of various short stories, featuring the
Young Avengers, Misty Knight and Iron Fist, Squirrel Girl, and the
Pet Avengers.
I Am An Avenger 1 Review
Yeah this is going
to be a bit hard to review. It is obviously a book that is more
skewed towards youngsters with a few short stories. The first story
features the Young Avengers, with the title of "Homecoming",
written by Jim McCann, Pencilled and Inked by Chris Samnee, Colored
by Matt Wilson, and lettered by Dave Lanpear.
Story was about
the Young Avengers, just standing around outside of the mansion. Not
too bad. They get in, after proving themselves, and it is a big
party, with a lot of cameos of the Marvel Super Heroes that you know
and love, just proving how deep the Avengers roster is.
The second story
was titled the Books of Iron Fist. This story was written by Duane
Swieczynski, penciled and inked by Jason Latour, Colored by Rico
Renzi, and lettered by Dan Lanphear.
To me the best of
the four stories right in this issue. I don't know how to describe
it. Doing stories in flashback is really something that can go really
wrong. But it is a testament how this was presented that this story
involving Iron Fist and Misty Knight went well. Or rather a testament
of how just lackluster the rest of the stories of this comic book
was. Still fine effort for a more modern book.
Welcome Home,
Squirrel Girl was written by Alex Zalben, Penciled and Inked by Tom
Fowler, Colored by Matt Wilson, and Lettered by Dave Lanphear.
Exactly what it
says on the tin. Squirrel Girl comes home. Left no lasting impression
on me really.
Gnu Recruit was
written, penciled, inked, colored, and lettered by Chris Eliopoulos.
We have Ms. Lions(yes of Spider-Man and his amazing Friends Fame) and
Thor Frog of Thunder, or Thog of you prefer, talking about why
Wolverine can't be in the pet avengers. He doesn't have a tail. Well
I guess Wolverine can't be on every super hero team ever.
Thumbs in the
middle for this issue. It had its charm but it is a more kid friendly
book. Not that there's anything wrong with that if you have children.
