Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Episode 7 the Incredible Shrinking Turtles
This episode is part of a story arc that goes through Episodes 7 through 10. In general, Season 2 really does seem to be rather fluid as far as continuity is concerned, with Shredder’s latest scheme to try and destroy his hated enemies without relying on Krang, that being trying to get the power of the Eye of Sarnoth. Or is it Zarnov? Because I’ve seen it spelled as both. Let’s just go with Sarnoth for the sake of my brain.
So Michelangelo decides to catch his fellow Turtles by surprise, by attacking dressed as the Shredder. Using an old pizza pan to create his costume. This harmless bit of fun is quickly dashed by an alien crashing on Earth and losing parts of his ship, the Eye of Sarnoth, that if combined together will get whoever wields it ultimate power. Which interest Shredder, who is watching the Turtles closely, spying on them, stalking them. Shredder wants his foot soldiers but Krang says no, not until you take out the Turtles. So Shredder vows victory without Krang’s help, and he’s stuck with merely Baxter Stockman helping him.
Needless to say, the Turtles manage to track the first fragment, but the Shredder pretty much owns them in battle. This might have been the Shredder’s crowning moment of awesome as per this series, beating all four Turtles in one swift shot. And then he uses the power of the fragment right on the Turtles to make them shrink. The Turtles just narrowly escape, before the Shredder could stomp on their heads.
The Turtles suffer a series of misadventures due to their shrunken status as April and Splinter try to track down the fragment. Krang is not impressed with Shredder shrinking buildings, he wants Turtles. With help from Baxter, the Shredder captures the Turtles and puts them right in a glass jar. Shredder breaks cartoon villain etiquette with deciding to off the Turtles in a simple way, by smashing them with a crowbar.
Splinter makes the save but Shredder tries to kill Splinter, by smothering him with a cheese wrapping machine but April manages to figure out the fragment, growing the Turtles, and causing Donatello’s Bo Staff to smash the machine and make the save, but Shredder escapes.
Splinter trolling the Turtles with the small pizzas at the end was a great ending.
Got to give this one a 9/10 for a rather fun episode. You can watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Episode 7 The Incredible Shrinking Turtles on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles DVD Volume 2.
