It is now time to dip right into into
the really big comic book box of doom and pull out another comic
book, this time an Ultimate Spider-Man comic book. That in fact being
Ultimate Spider-Man Issue 154. In this comic, the Black Cat,
Spider-Man, and Mysterio do battle over a mystical artifact that the
Kingpin owned.
Ultimate Spider-Man 154 Review
Ultimate
Spider-Man Issue 154 was released with a cover date of April 2011 by
Marvel Comics. This Ultimate Spider-Man comic book featured the
writing talents of Brian Michael Bendis, Penciled and Inked by Sara
Pichelli, David Lefuete, and Elena Casagrande, Colored by Justin
Ponsor, and Lettered by Cory Petit.
Ah Ultimate
Spider-Man, the comic book, not the polarizing animation series by
the same name. A comic book that was an interesting alternate take on
the Spider-Man mythology. It had some cool new ideas, some ideas that
really were not of the best, but it did have its fans. Over the
years, it seemed to get rather stale and the quality just was not
there.
This is the
prelude to the death of Spider-Man, where they killed Peter Parker
off. And since this is not the mainstream comics where people die and
come back to life, about as often as changing their socks, Spider-Man
stays dead. This entire storyline was something that pretty much
cracked the Internet in half and we are not going to even get into
the reaction for his replacement.
Now this story off
of the back end of Ultimate Spider-Man, when Peter Parker was
Spider-Man, back end seems to be a pretty good word. I don't want to
say that this story was amount the worst but yeah there is just
something about it, that really did not captivate my interest.
Ultimate
Spider-Man comics were a different take off of the mythos of
Spider-Man, with changes being made. And some of these changes were
not for the better. It took me a while before I realize that thing
was supposed to be Mysterio. Mysterio and his trademark fishbowl
helmet, is an iconic look that goes hand and hand.
And the artwork,
the artwork that makes supposed teenagers look like about half of
their age and not only half of their age, but something that came out
of children of the corn or something. Might not be my cup of tea. The
actual story was just standard super hero fare, and really it was a
comic I blasted through in five minutes.
And other than the
rather weird and somewhat unsettling artwork of this Ultimate
Spider-Man comic, it left no impression on me. This was a few years
after I had stopped reading this particular series of comics. It was
good during its peak but when Ultimate Spider-Man fell, it fell
rather fast with me.
Your mileage may
vary. However, this comic was not my cup of tea. Give Ultimate
Spider-Man Issue 154 from Marvel Comics a pass.
