Ultimate Spider-Man Episode 12 Me Time Review

The following review contains spoilers for Ultimate Spider-Man Season 1 Episode 12 Me Time.

Episode Synopsis

Spider-Man has a battle with Whirlwind which he wins, but causes a lot of damage. Nick Fury offers Peter additional training but Peter declines, saying that this weekend is his and with Aunt May out for the day, this leaves him full run of the house. Of course, Peter goofs off but notices a camera, as Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. are spying on him.

Being an impulsive teenager, Peter is not happy, and he confronts Fury about this. Despite this being to keep an eye on his Aunt and also because Peter technically agreed to this, he is still not pleased, so he hands on his communication watch and walks off, saying this is not what he signed up for.

Doctor Otto Octavius watches Spider-Man, with Norman Osborn wanting more results. Octavius vows to get the job done himself, which Osborn doubts, mocking Octavius for being a shut in and he'd be nothing without his mechanical arms. Octavius goes to prove Osborn wrong and fights Spider-Man himself. Spider-Man gives Octavius the name, Doctor Octopus and fights him but the tables were turner.

Octopus has Spider-Man and prepares to dissect him. His new found success has caused him to be a bit more arrogant, spurning Osborn, saying that he doesn't need him. Spider-Man fights off Doctor Octopus but Osborn, knowing his now ex-employee has failed, begins blowing up the laboratory, flooding it. Spider-Man contacts S.H.I.E.L.D. but by the time they arrive, Doc Ock is gone.

Spider-Man and Fury make a compromise, with Fury agreeing to erase the in house security tapes, but of course, not before showing them to Peter's team mates, to much laughter.

Episode Review

Yeah that ending was unnecessarily cruel, which made it kind of hilarious.

Doctor Octopus, one of my personal favorite Spider-Man villains, was featured this week, and we had a rather good fight between him and Spider-Man. Granted, that fight will likely have perils to another fight between Spidey and Ock in a much superior show, given that it took place at an amusement park, but what are young to do.

The jokes were rather all over the place in this episode. This show actually can be potentially nearly decent when it actually focuses on Spider-Man doing what Spider-Man does. When they try to be funny, the results often are not pretty.

I'm becoming more and more convinced this version of Peter has some form of ADHD or ADD. I doubt I'm the only one.

I really have no idea what to make of a couple of scenes right in this episode, looks like someone might have come up with, after they indulged in something. Especially the scene with Fury and Peter in the camp fire, surrounded by tentacles was kind of trippy, with Fury eating some kind of insects.

Ock was menacing and Spider-Man did get some halfway decent quips. I did snicker at Spider-Man lecturing Ock about referencing his pronouns. And some groaners.

Episode Rating and Final Thoughts

Um, 7/10 I guess, which the plot between Spider-Man and Doc Ock getting between an 8/10 and 9/10 and some of the more stupider side gags getting very much below. You can watch Ultimate Spider-Man Episode 12 Me Time if you have Disney XD On Demand.
